Announcing Haiku Deck for iPad with iOS 7 Support

Haiku Deck + iOS 7

The breakthrough iOS 7 rolls out today for iPhone and iPad, and we have worked hard to be among the first iPad Apps to incorporate the new look and feel. Here’s a rundown of what’s new in Haiku Deck for iPad v. 2.2!

Redesigned for iOS 7

We’ve redesigned the app from the ground up to take full advantage of the breakthrough style and technology of iOS 7. The newest version of iOS, with its focus on simplicity, clarity, and efficiency, now informs the look and feel of Haiku Deck, from the new app icon to the parallax effect on the app’s main screen, which offers a whole new experience of depth when you tilt your iPad.

Compassion and Connection: Be Inspired by Haiku Deck Guru Susan Spellman Cann

Compassion Counts!

Last week we had so much fun hosting Haiku Deck Guru Susan Spellman Cann at HDHQ. She arrived with fresh flowers from the Pike Place Market and a huge box of goodies from Bishop Carroll High School, where she works as a school counsellor. Susan has been an incredibly special part of our community pretty much since we launched, but it was awesome to meet face to face!

Compassion and caring: Haiku Deck Guru Susan Spellman Cann

Susan with Lisa, our Customer Evangelist

“If I commit to something, I really commit to it.”

Susan takes her role as a Guru incredibly seriously. “If I commit to something, I really commit to it,” she says. In the previous 24 hours, she had evangelized Haiku Deck to the businessman sitting next to her on the plane from Calgary, her taxi driver, and a photographer selling his artwork in the market. (We joked that the best way to spread the word about Haiku Deck might be to just send Susan on a world tour.)

We have long admired Susan’s beautiful Haiku Decks filled with positive messages of caring and compassion, but as we talked it became clear how much Haiku Deck is part of her personal mission to make an impact on young people’s lives, in her community and well beyond. “I believe Haiku Deck can change the world,” she said. “Powerpoint isn’t going to change the world. But Haiku Deck can.”

“I believe Haiku Deck can change the world.”

Here is one of Susan’s decks that has been viewed more than 40,000 times, clear evidence that her inspiring thoughts and words have resonated and spread far beyond her school and city:

Over lunch, she told us the story of a troubled student who decided not to harm herself because Susan happened to smile at her in the hallway (we can attest that she is authentically full of smiles). This powerful moment inspired “One Kind Word”:

Operation SXSW: Visual Storytelling and Pitch Advice

SXSW or Bust!

SXSW: The perfect confluence of innovation, inspiration, and sheer creative energy. In short, exactly where we want to be.

We’ve submitted three SXSW proposals that are now open for public voting and comment in the SXSW Panelpicker. If any look like sessions you ‘d want to hear, we’d be (as always) incredibly grateful for your support. (Once you create an account — it’s pretty painless — you can vote once for as many sessions as you like, through September 6.)

1. Unlocking Inspiration Through Visual Storytelling (SXSW Interactive)

More and more, we communicate visually. Every day, people share hundreds of millions of images through Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. As Nick Bilton of the NY Times put it, “Photos, once slices of a moment in the past — sunsets, meetings with friends, the family vacation — are fast becoming an entirely new type of dialogue.”

Since Haiku Deck launched, we have served up millions of images and analyzed what people are searching for, and which images they’re choosing to illustrate those concepts. Our recent partnership with Getty Images deepened our understanding of how people communicate meaning through images.

In this collaborative session, we’ll do a deep dive on the data to investigate what stories people are telling and which images they’re choosing. We’ll then explore techniques and strategies for pushing visual storytelling further, going beyond the literal and the expected to unlock deeper meaning and more powerful visual communication.

Would anyone share our belief that presentations should be more simple, beautiful, and fun?

Four seasons and more than half a million Haiku Decks later, we wanted to take a minute to acknowledge the amazing creative community that is flourishing. (That’s you, by the way.)

Here are some highlights, milestones, and a heartfelt thank you, just for you:
